Completed in 2021, Mama Stones, a former live music venue, is now a four-storey student accommodation building offering 31 prestigious flats in Exeter.

On behalf of our client, Ethos Property, SRE’s sustainability specialists assessed the scheme under BREEAM NC 2014. Our accredited BREEAM AP was appointed during the early design stages ensuring key advice, knowledge and assistance was provided from the offset of the project, all whilst supporting the BREEAM assessment through to completion.

To further address BREEAM requirements, a Low and Zero Carbon (LZC) Feasibility Study was prepared providing a prediction of the building’s energy requirements compared to a Building Regulation compliant design. A Thermal Comfort Analysis was undertaken using dynamic simulation tools in accordance with CIBSE AM11 which assesses thermal comfort measures for Mama Stones, taking into consideration both the technical and economic viability to identify potential overheating risk.

Our sustainability specialists produced a Sustainable Procurement Policy outlining the sustainable procurement framework for the responsible sourcing of materials guiding procurement throughout the project. A Building User Guide was provided to ensure users of the building understood the effective operation of the various electrical, water heating, cooling, ventilation and safety systems throughout.

"Having worked with SRE on recent commercial projects, I found their consultants to be knowledgeable and very easy to work with. They were always happy to provide advice or assistance when asked and did so in a prompt and effective manner."
