Constructed in the early 1990s and comprising 14 industrial units, Meadowbrook Park Trading Estate is the home to a diverse range of businesses. As part of its sustainability ambitions, the estate is undergoing a retrofit aimed at achieving Net Zero unregulated carbon emissions and a B rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
SRE provided an Operational Energy and Embodied Carbon Report, outlining a pathway to Net Zero. Our building physics specialists recommended retrofitting measures, including enhancements to building fabric, systems and lighting, and the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems. Using SBEM modelling, we calculated the unregulated operational energy consumption for each proposed improvement and evaluated their associated CO2e emissions.
Our Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) calculated the embodied carbon impact of the retrofit over a 60-year period. This comprehensive evaluation balanced the increase in embodied carbon from upgrades against long-term operational carbon savings.
This project demonstrates the transformative potential of retrofitting industrial estates to meet modern sustainability standards to not only comply with future changes in regulation, but to add value to an asset.
