Bourn Quarter, a unique 305,000 sq ft Net Zero Carbon production, R&D and warehousing business park in Cambridge.

SRE’s sustainability specialists have produced a Whole Life Carbon Fit-Out Assessment for multiple units on behalf of our long-term client, Savills. Through the evaluation of various stages throughout the building lifecycle (Construction Process Stage, Use Stage & End of Life Stage), the embodied carbon emissions were calculated to ascertain the whole life carbon impact of the development fit out. Workable solutions were then identified to reduce lifetime emissions.

SRE’s building physics specialists completed Dynamic Energy Modelling calculating the operational carbon emissions. Based on CIBSE TM54 methodology, our specialists predicted the likely performance and operational energy which informed the basis for the Whole Life Carbon Assessment.

By carrying out the above, SRE’s specialists can determine the most carbon contributing elements and materials and therefore provide a detailed picture of the overall carbon emissions associated with the site.

"SRE have become a core part of the design team and are driving the Net Zero Carbon initiatives at Bourn Quarter. SRE’s expertise in Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCA) and their early-stage design input has been instrumental in helping us understand how we can achieve these goals. Their thorough analysis and insightful reports have guided us in making informed decisions to reduce the environmental impact of the scheme. We’ve been really impressed with SRE’s professionalism, responsiveness, and commitment to helping us consistently improve the sustainability of our scheme."
